Using the freeweights in an unsupervised setting makes us more than a little bit nervous. But a freeweight equipment installation at home can work quite well if you consider the rules and follow them.

If you don’t have serious plans to become the strongest person in the world, you probably won’t need a full set of dumbbells at home. The best choice is a pair of adjustable dumbbells. Costing no more than $200, these dumbbells allow you to adjust the weight of the barbell from 5 to 45 pounds.

Weight plates are available in 2.5- through 100-pound increments. Figure on spending about 25¢ per pound. You should also buy a pair of collars. Now you are ready to do almost all the exercises with your weight equipment. However, there are a few unsafe exercises and it is undesirable to do them without a spotter.

If you don’t plan to spend a fortune to equip your home gym you will always find something new to buy as there is a huge number of different gym equipment on the market. However, even the best gym in the world will do you no good if you won’t use it. Training in a gym is the most reliable way to train your body and keep it fit, but the option of home gym is certainly the next best thing.
